Calzones are a regular Sunday night dinner at the little house. If you make up a full-size batch of pizza dough you can freeze half later and get a head start on another meal. Also, if you have picky eaters it’s fairly easy to just change the fillings as need be.
½ recipe basic pizza dough, made with quick-rise yeast
1 small can of pizza sauce
8 oz. mozzarella cheese, shredded
Pizza toppings of choice
Divide your dough into four pieces, each one will be close to baseball size. For each calzone, roll the dough out into a circle on a floured surface. Add 2 T. sauce to the center of the dough.
Stay away from the edge or you won’t get a good seal and all the yummy sauce will ooze out. Sprinkle toppings over the sauce and top with cheese.
Preheat the oven to 375. Fold the circle in half on itself and pinch the edges to seal in the filling. Let rise for 15-20 minutes and bake for 25-30 minutes.
Top with any leftover sauce and cheese before serving. We’ll start the Thanksgiving portion of our program this Friday!
